Flower Garden:
Trim winter flowering heathers to shape
Prune midsummer and autumn flowering clematis – Do not prune
Spring flowering varieties or you will not get any flowers
Plant trees, shrubs, perennials and roses so long as the soil
is not waterlogged
Divide and replant overcrowded perennials
Mulch established borders
Prune and feed roses if not already done
Harden off sweet peas for planting out later in month
Fruit and Vegetable Garden:
Finish digging over ground
Plant early potatoes, shallots and onion sets in sheltered areas
Finish planting fruit trees and bushes
Mulch Raspberry canes
Many vegetable seeds can be sown under glass or outside if conditions
permit
Plant hardy herbs e.g. Thyme, Mint and Sage
Lawn:
Prepare and seed any bare areas of lawn
Begin cutting your lawn if the weather allows. Start at the highest
setting
Greenhouse:
Sow tomatoes, cucumbers, melons and aubergines
Sow half hardy and tender annuals either in a heated propagator
or heated greenhouse
Start dahlia tubers into growth
Keep a close eye out for fungal diseases especially damping off.
Vent whenever possible
Containers:
To keep your winter containers looking good ensure regular dead
heading of pansies and primroses
