Flower Garden:
Lightly trim winter flowering heathers once flowers have died off
Prune midsummer and autumn flowering clematis – Do not prune Spring flowering varieties or you will not get any flowers
Plant trees, shrubs, perennials and roses so long as the soil is not waterlogged
Mulch established borders
Plant summer flowering bulbs

Fruit and Vegetable Garden:
Dig over any vacant ground
Dig and put into store any root crops still in the ground
Plant any new fruit trees and bushes
Complete the pruning of fruit bushes and trees

Lawn:
Spike lawn if soggy to aid drainage
Get your mower serviced before you need to start using it again

Greenhouse:
Check the glass for damage and for loose panes. Clean/disinfect glass if possible.
Check that the heating system works before sowing anything tender.
Start sowing bedding plants in a heated propagator. Those that will perform better with an early start include petunias, geraniums, busy lizzies and nicotiana.
Sow sweet peas for early planting outdoors.
Tomatoes can be sown at the end of this month

Containers:
To keep your winter containers looking good ensure regular dead heading of pansies and primroses .
